Discreetly tucked beneath the streets of Midtown West, you will find Beautique, a subterranean lounge that has received a lot of buzz since opening its doors earlier this year – and for a good reason, since this swanky spot recently claimed the Concierge Choice Award’s title of Best New Restaurant for 2014.
This West 58th Street boîte, dubbed “New York’s Newest Millionaire Lair”, serves as an exclusive underground escape in a sultry, sophisticated setting that summons the city’s upper echelon after the sun sinks beneath Gotham’s glittering horizon each evening.
Boasting a cozy, comfortable ambiance with a fun and lively scene, Beautique is the perfect place for an entertaining client dinner, a lavish date night, or post-dinner cocktails amongst posh people.
After making your way past an inconspicuous entrance guarded by a highly selective doorman and descending down a set of mirror-lined stairs, you will find yourself amidst a sea of celebrities, socialites, and pocket-squared power players accompanied by glamorous models in a dining room that is simply dripping with decadence.
Described as “Coco Chanel, 1900’s Paris-meets-New York” the dramatic décor features gilded silk walls, rows of gleaming crystal decanters, smoky mirrors, and Jean Paul Gaultier designed bar stools.
Even the wait staff aligns with Beautique’s stylish surroundings, featuring attractive servers dressed in Elie Tahari that provide impeccable service as they swiftly drift through the sleek, dark lounge and chandelier-clad dining rooms.
As far as food is concerned, the restaurant offers a modern American menu created by former Le Cirque chef, Craig Hopson that features a variety of delectable upscale entrées employing a variety of unique, market fresh ingredients.
Settle into a velvet banquette in the dining room and nibble on appetizers such as Rabbit, Romano Bean & Grape Salad or small plates piled high with Wild Goose Oysters on ice. Then indulge in a variety of mouth-watering entrées that range from Duck Breast drizzled in chocolate peppercorn vinaigrette with apricots and dandelion, to Sea Scallops amidst a medley of creamed corn, brassicas, peas and chorizo dashi.
However, make sure you save some room for dessert. Beautique offers an impressive selection of culinary creations from pastry chef Jiho Kim, including Eucalyptus Panna Cotta with cucumber olive oil sorbet, Peach Lychee Mousse with tonka infused peach, almond frangipane & coconut sable and Corn Custard accompanied by buffalo mozzarella sorbet.
For a more secluded setting, slink past the kitchen and snag a seat in the “secret” lounge, where you can sip on a wide selection of creative cocktails such as the French 75, featuring Remy 1783, lemon and champagne or the Maison Martini, made with lemongrass, pineapple, mint, Abosulte Elyx and St. Germaine.
Beautique ultimately creates an unparalleled experience for patrons through its fantastic fare, chic design and inimitable ambiance, therefore making it a go-to spot for elite creatures of the night that are looking to see and be seen this season.
